so i see a comercial on tv for a movie called the ruins..i was like oo that looks good...a movie about people who get trapped in a ancient ruin with a bunch of creepy monster things...to put it simply..i was wrong...it about flowers that manipulate you then eat you. oooo scary *that was sarcasm* this movie was stupid and sllllooooowww an hour and a half of my life wasted. dont waste your money on something as bad as this.it was also disgusting. bloody and scary is one thing. bloody and stupid is another.

This movie was actually based on a very good book, unlike most of the other crap horror films that are being made nowadays. The book, over 500 pages long was able to take the time to really develop the characters and the relationships that eventually come to a long grueling bloody end. Unfortunately, in film, you cant take quite so much time to get there. Having said that, I think the movie was pretty faithful to the book and enjoyable. I think this movie suffers from 'bad horror fatigue'. It's almost impossible to please anyone with horror anymore because we are always expecting more than just human fear and suffering. There's plenty of blood but watch 'The Ruins' for the tension and the performances ... esp Jenna Malone ... and dont keep waiting for the Big Bad Monster. This movie isnt about the scary thing in the closet. Its about the things that you are capable of when your only option of survival, like an animal in a trap, is to gnaw off your own foot.

I was surprised to see that the screenplay was written by the author of the book. So much much was modified. It was good, but the book was fantastic. He changed the story a bit, but he interchanged his characters totally. The characters in the book were thought out. I read the 500 page book in 3 days, But the movie, he gave different attributes and circumstances to different characters- totally changing the dynamics of the personalities. I was excited about seeing the movie- obviously seeing it the first night out- but was dissapointed. i did jump at parts, and will admit I was jaded because the book was great, but.... it was a good scary movie, maybe if you could suspend belief for 2 hours.... In the book, I was so engrossed, I was scared. reminisent of the Shininhg... tooo cool!!!!!! So what I am saying is see the movie, but read the book, it is Fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I actually went back to read his other other book, so I am a fan.

you people must be hard to please the theatre i was in was packed and you could here the people gasp at many parts in fear and horror. The blonde chick was hot the brunette not so much but they did a good job for unknowns. Never read book but a good concept and if they made movie longer the could have made it even better. I would go see again.

Great effort for a young cast that looks relatively new to the business. Storyline a little predictable. Notable performance by young looking greek guy that is killed off early in the film. Great movie to watch to see some up and coming stars of the future.

To call this a bad film would be an unwarranted compliment. It was a bad story, bad, undeveloped characters, silly dialog and a ridiculously bad villain with a stupid ending. Stay away.

I think this could possibly be one of the worst movies I have ever seen in my life. Save your money, it's not even worth renting. There were no more than 20 people in the theatre and 3 got up and left. Seriously, I laughed.
