I'm not sure how good this movie might be if were a completely original work. It is definitley an abomination to the original, and bastardized in such a way that I can't believe that Will Eisner would have ever approved of it. The hat's wrong, the actor is wrong, black shirts on the Spirit are just wrong. Will Eisner never showed the face of the Octopus. Mr. Eisner knew how to craft a story. I must say that when I saw the movie My Chauffeur, I saw Sam Jones and realized that he was born to play the Spirit. He was the Spirit reincarnated almost perfectly. A movie was made with him as the Spirit and it was not faithful to much of what Will Eisner created. A once in a lifetime chance was gone. This movie, appears so far to be much worse. I will see it, because I am a student of film. If I were in a position to do so, I would like to create the movie that Will Eisner would have created if he were operating in that medium.

Whoops, sorry. To be honest, I live under a rock, and have not seen Dark Knight or 300, but this movie looks like it will definitely rake in the kind of ridiculous amounts of money a Frank Miller film draws, even without copious amounts of blood and gore. From what I've seen on IMDB and the general chatter around comic stores here in the Bay Area, it looks like Miller is going to rely more heavily on the pacing of the story and beautiful character development to make this another movie all my friends want to see 38 times.

I'm not sure Will Eisner would have ever wanted this movie made. He was so posessive of the charecter, and while I respect Frank Millers other efforts, the trailers do not convey the 'spirit' of the charecter that Eisner created and nurtured all those years. Miller claims to know what Will wanted, but I can't believe that this is it. Sorry Frank...not consistent with Eisner's heart.

i can gurantee this movie will be awful if it is rated pg 13. the only way it could meet the standards of 300 and sin city fans is it they give it an R rating so we can see some blood, breasts, and limbs flying...

For you naysayers: It's a movie done with imagery for thinking people who understand character and story. Go back to watching Jerry Springer and Desperate Housewives. You examplify the dumbing down of America.
