Won't make anyone forget "The Shining," but it's a nice throwback to the days when scary movies featured pretty good actors, a plot that holds together and a couple of creepy-looking ghost kids. show more

Don't be too quick to turn down The Uninvited. A stylish horror thriller in the vein of "The Ring," it's well-acted, frightening and handsomely produced show more

    Joe Morgenstern Wall Street Journal

The plot borrows as freely from Hitchcock and Henry James as from the Bard of Avon, and doesn't make scrupulous sense, though I'd have to see the film again, which I won't do, to make sure it doesn't cheat. show more

With visual nods to Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining" and a fairly faithful adherence to the tenor and tone of the Korean scare genre, The Uninvited doesn't startle and shock so much as it lulls you into a series of unsettling, hallucinogenic set pieces. show more

Yeah, this is pretty much your classic been-there, done-that scenario: evil stepmother, clueless father, imperiled teen. show more

    The Hollywood Reporter

The film is still cheesy rather than deliciously scary. It never really generates sustained suspense. show more

Emily Browning's face helps The Uninvited work so well...She makes you fear for her, and that's half the battle. Yet she's so fresh she's ready for a Jane Austen role. show more

The Uninvited is a flawed production, but gratifying in the way it delivers. The interesting and unique elements of the movie effectively compensate for the formulaic way in which the plot develops. show more

The actors are strong, however, and Banks in particular shows some skill and wiles in keeping her rascally stepmother stereotype lively. show more

The first Hollywood horror flick I've seen that seems like it was made specifically for 12-year-olds. show more

I saw the movie today and that it was pretty good. I don't really like the jump out the closet- and scare the crapola out of me- type of film anyway. Those that prefer to be really scared may want to pass on this one. The ending was kind of predictable, once you really thought about it, there were some clues. It was well acted and out of a scale of 1-10, I would give it a 7.

Seriously, dont even waste your money. This movie was pathetic! It was NOT was actually quite boring. I cant believe this movie even made it to theaters. Dont be fooled by the creepy previews..its not a horror film. I wouldve rather stayed at home and watched reruns of some old show that Ive seen a million times already than spend money on this pathetic waste of film.

My wife and I both really enjoyed this one! Don't be thrown off by a lot of the users here that complained about the ending...if you are smart enough, you will piece it together quite easily. The acting is top notch and the scares are patterned out enough to be just right and not out of place or forced. Also a very scenic film to for what its worth. Emily Browning is a very good actress, I wait for her big break though very soon.
