I felt like I had been transported back in time. I was in the year 1931.The film allowed me to feel the prohibition era through each of my sences. The only aspect that I felt was somewhat inferior was the final gun battle. In that scene. there appeared to be too much macho bravado and not enough common sence displayed.

Everything about this movie was well done. True to fact about the Proibition Era. A great storyline, with believable Actors. Recommened to all.

Very good movie! Some of the violence really got to me though. I thought the story and acting were well delivered by the actors especially Guy Pierce ********** made you hate his character so much! The story was very interesting and Intense about this moonshining family. I love true stories ,so this fit the bill. The era in which this story takes place was well done also. I highly recommend.

Filled to the brim with top-shelf performances from an impressive cast, and with enough well-executed (and often shocking) violence to keep moviegoers of all stripes wide awake, Lawless is a minor classic in the making. Full Review

The New York Times
There are too many action-movie clichés without enough dramatic purpose, and interesting themes and anecdotes are scattered around without being fully explored. This is weak and cloudy moonshine: it doesn't burn or intoxicate. Full Review

Washington Post
With visions of "The Public Enemy," "Bonnie and Clyde" and even "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford" dancing in its head, the Prohibition-era drama Lawless winds up being equal to none of them -- even if it holds its own as a modestly respectable genre exercise. Full Review

One problem with Lawless, though, is that it feels chock-full of entrances that never quite lead anywhere. [3 Sept. 2012, p.78] Full Review

So stunningly photographed that the blood that spurts early and often in this grisly period piece is extra-vivid red. But that hardly makes the Prohibition-era story of a trio of bootlegging brothers feel authentic. Full Review
