First to all the people saying DDL gave another great performance in spite of the movie: you're nuts. He was obviously completely high on his own idiotic method acting and ridiculous accent. This piece of nonsense wasn't "independent" or "art", it was a star vehicle, plain and simple.Second to all the people saying that those who thought the movie was terrible were philistines who just like formulaic Hollywood movies and know nothing about art: I attend Sundance as well as the most small festivals I can spare the time and expense for. During festivals I get up at 8 AM for early screenings and stay up as late as need be for the last show - in frozen snowy conditions no less. When there isn't a film festival on, I have been known to go out in all kinds of inclement weather at all hours and pay many times as much as the price of a ticket just for a taxi to get to a theater to see a promising indie movie. But this travesty, this HIGH budget HOLLYWOOD mess masquerading as a dark brooding meaningful film was nothing but a sham, a sham that uses the label of art to hide its utter worthlessness. And the critics are all happily suckling at the teat of this garbage because we're "supposed" to like it if we're intelligent and sophisticated. But here's what differentiates going to a gallery in hopes of seeing good art only to find out it's bad, then hanging around tolerating it for the free wine and cheese - you actually have to PAY for this nonsense. And when someone is paying for a movie ticket (never mind the popcorn and soda), they should be ENTERTAINED, plain and simple.

This is not only the best film of 2007, but is one of the great movies EVER! This is true genious at work. I loved the fact that there is no spoken words for about 15 minutes at the start of the movie! That's great movie-making, as movies are primarily visual. The soundtrack is incredible, the acting top-notch, everything is pitch-perfect. I also liked No Country for Old Men this year, but it just didn't measure up to There Will Be Blood.

Yeah freakydude and oilmovie...Must be real patrons of the arts... Good for you, you who can so dish out slander against people but probably can't take it...just accept that hard working people go to a movie to be a slight bit entertained...I think most of the posts here show this movie failed miserably at that...

While Daniel Day Lewis was absolutely brillerant in There Will be Blood - what the hell was the movie about!?! Was there a plot? And if so, what was it? Both my husband and I came away just shaking our heads. No wonder our world is in so much trouble with violence and nonesome like this on our movie screens all the time! A BIG FAT waste of time and money!!!!!!

I just created an AOL account for the sole purpose of responding to the dozens of utter morons and borderline illiterates who have responded to this amazing film. My god you people depress me. It is the fault of you idiots that the "nerdy, 6-language speaking (and now Noble-prize winning) " Al Gore wasn't elected and an near-retarded, inarticulate good old boy from Texas got two terms and landed the entire free world in the worst situation we have suffered through in decades. Do you really need to be spoonfed every single aspect of a film to appreciate any of it? Are you really unwilling to do ANY work on your own? Do you indeed need a sage-like but nonthreatening voiceover by Morgan Freeman to be told what a film is about? Does there have to be a predictable plot-line, a beautiful but otherwise unremarkable love interest, a good healthy dose of comic relief, and a ravishing, melodic score for you to feel like you are getting your money's worth? It's for you people that the film studios in Hollywood concoct formula-driven tripe year after year, bland, predictable trash to which There Will Be Blood and No Country For Old Men are blessed exceptions. For god's sake, go read a book, something great, something other than the Da Vinci code, or at least teach your children to. If what you want from a film is exemplified in "The Bucket List" or "Independence Day" or films like this, then stay away from the good stuff or at least have the intelligence to keep your trap shut when you don't recognize greatness.

Rent the Gangs of New York, instead....Daniel Day Lewis gives the same performance in this as he does in There will be Blood...I think that the reviewers in the newspapers just buy into each other's crap...they can't believe that this was Oscar worthy acting....

This was hard movie to watch,it was bleak, dismal, painful and way too violent. I did not like Daniel Day_Lewis, I liked nothing about this movie and feel I wasted my time and money. Save your money for a better movie.
