This Is Where I Leave You

R| 1 hr. 43 min.

Plot Summary
When their father passes away, four grown, world-weary siblings return to their childhood home and are requested -- with an admonition -- to stay there together for a week, along with their free-speaking mother (Jane Fonda) and a collection of spouses, exes and might-have-beens. As the brothers and sisters re-examine their shared history and the status of each tattered relationship among those who know and love them best, they reconnect in hysterically funny and emotionally significant ways.

  • This comedy about a death is a funeral for the audience. show more

  • This is one of those overworked and generally airless comedies with a sitcom premise that can't sustain life. show more

  • You laugh in spite of yourself in This Is Where I Leave You, a potty-mouthed comedy with enough exasperation, aggravations, long-standing grievances and get-me-outta-here moments of family stress to strike a chord with anyone who’s ever had to endure large clan gatherings that might have lasted a bit too long. show more

I disagree whole heartedly with most of these reviews. It was witty and dealt with real life issue in a funny and useful plot. A movie that was watched and enjoyed by the whole family.

The minuses out weighed the pluses 2 to one. The theme of this movie has been done before and done much better. I think it was the ridiculously over the top, goofy youngest brother that tipped the scale down to a two star rating for me.

I liked it. Interesting, good acting and diverse cast. Just like life: funny, sad, heart breaking, lessons learned, family dynamics and love.
