Troy is an outstanding portrayal of Homer's epic even with major deviations from the original Iliad. Captures timeless issues related to diverse reasons soldiers go to war, their loyalties, and the impact on their loved ones. This really expensive and ultumately brainless movie will be remembered more for Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt making time under the sheets when the cameras were not rolling and Hollywood Tabloids had a field day.

I was surprised that I ended up liking this movie more than I thought I would. Brad Pitt (whom I admired since first seeing him in Thelma and Louise ~ "He's gonna be a star!" For what it is -- a big, expensive, occasionally campy action movie full of well-known actors speaking in well-rounded accents -- Troy is not bad. It has the blocky, earnest integrity of a classic comic book, and it labors to respect the strangeness and grandeur of its classical sources. Full Review

Often plays like what it is: a clunky toga-and-sandals picture, with Hollywood compromises abounding. Full Review

That's the only way to enjoy Wolfgang Petersen's nearly three-hour epic: as a Pitt vehicle. In a role that requires larger-than-life dimensions, he's pretty terrific. Full Review

There are times when Troy is stirring and engaging. However, at least as often, it is flat. Full Review
