Sobering look at the problems of public schools - shows what lack of competition does to schools. Arrogant Teacher Union once again looking out for the adults at the expense of the kids. Should have been voted best picture of the year. Highly recommend for all.

I just wish there would have been a better narrator....

I am a tutor in a public school in Florida and I see first hand the problems of the education system. This documentary was very informative and it showed that not only the poorest neighborhoods and schools but every school suffers from an outdated system to provide education that worked "okay" in the 50's. This documentary should be watched by everyone as a wake up call

Everyone should see this. I was hired as an administrator in a school that was made into a "pilot school" when it was failing. The teachers did not have to reapply, they were allowed to keep their jobs. They were even paid to run a club. Once the pilot status stopped, the money stopped, and how many kept their clubs? 1 out of 190 teachers.

Exhilarating, heartbreaking and righteous, Waiting for Superman is also a kind of high-minded thriller: Can the American education system be cured? Full Review

Much of the film is told compellingly and heartbreakingly through the wide-eyed innocence of five children. Full Review

The plentiful pop-doc touches ensure that this wake-up call won't put you to sleep, even if the ratio of spoonfuls of sugar to medicine occasionally seems skewed. Full Review

Why are innovative educators met with so much resistance? And why is our system falling so painfully short? Perhaps because so many of us don't realize just how dire things really are. Full Review
