According to Daily Variety, Spanish sales giant Sogepaq has sold distribution
rights to Alejandro Amenabar's Venice prize-winner The Sea Inside to companies in the
Netherlands (A-Film), Belgium (Cineart), Switzerland (Frenetic
Films), Israel (Shani Film), Greece (Strada), Portugal
(Atalanta), and Hungary (Budapest Films).
Amenabar's film garnered the grand jury prize and best actor Coppa Volpi for Javier Bardem (Before Night Falls) at the recently concluded Venice Film Festival. The film screened at the Toronto International Film Festival on Tuesday.
Fine Line picked up North American and other English-language territories in July for a reported $5 million-plus and last month Japanese rights were picked up by Pony Canyon, according to the trade.
