Director Clint Eastwood claims that Warner Brothers was so against the idea of making a boxing picture, he had to secure half the financing for Million Dollar Baby on his own. But in the wake of that film's sucess, Variety reports that a "fight film resurgence" has pushed Paramount Pictures and Sony Pictures Entertainment to team up to purchase remake rights to Sundance doc Ring of Fire: The Emile Griffith Story. The two studios pursued rights seperately, but were convinced by Jeff Zucker, who purchased the documentary last week for air on the USA Network, to create the joint venture. Dan Klores, who co-directed the documentary with Ron Berger, will produce the feature.
