First Deep Throat, now Jesus: Mel
Gibson has announced that he is cutting five to six minutes of the most violent scenes from his controversial
hit, The Passion of the Christ, for re-release on at least 500 screens starting March 11. The edited version,
called The Passion Re-cut, will be released by Newmarket without a rating; it is designed to reach an audience
who skipped the first release of the film due to its reportedly excessive carnage. According to Bruce
Davey, Gibson's production partner, "The scourging scene in particular has been substantially adjusted."
