Do you remember a couple of years ago, when there were rumors that Russell Crowe was travelling around with bodyguards because he was afraid of being kidnapped? As much as we'd all like to chock that kind of thing up to everyday celebrity meglomania, Crowe now claims that there was credible evidence that al Qaeda (yes, that al Qaeda) was behind the whole thing. The Oscar winner says that after the FBI received a warning from a French policewoman who intercepted the threat in a recording, the actor spent much of 2001 under agency protection. "I don't think I was the only person [targeted]," Crowe told GQ magazine. "But it was about — and here's another little touch of irony — it was about taking iconographic Americans out of the picture as a sort of cultural-destabilization plan." So what happened? According to Crowe, the FBI eventually concluded that the threat had been "overstated." Don't believe me? Read the rest at Reuters.
