Landmark Theaters co-owner Mark Cuban has announced that the art house chain will outfit its 59 theaters with new Sony SXRD digital projectors. The SXRD is the first "4K" projector to become commercially available, and projects images at a resolution four times higher than standard high-def displays. Landmark will launch the project in six cities this summer, before eventually going digital in all of its 22 markets. In a statement, Cuban said that aside from the obvious benefits of image quality, the projectors will "allow us to project live concerts and sporting events, ultra high-resolution movies and presentations created using future technologies." indieWIRE has more on this story.
