We teased you about it a few days ago, but the official press release just dropped in our inbox: Sony Pictures Classics will, indeed, distribute Wong Kar Wai's 2046 in North America. In an unusually passionate statement, Sony said, "Wong Kar Wai's world on the screen reminds us why we love the movies." The film, which stars Maggie Chung, Tony Leung Chiu-wai and Faye Wong, took four years to produce, and rumours circulated at one point that it would never see the light of day. Kind of a superdark spin on 2000's In the Mood For Love, 2046 follows Chow Mo-Wan, Leung's character from the earlier film, as he moves to Hong Kong, writes pulpy serials and embarks on a messy affair with a neighbor. The film is set to have its US premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival, and will go into general release in the fall.
