KingdomofHeaven-newpic.jpg20th Century Fox has refuted claims from a historian that Kingdom of Heaven, an epic historical drama directed by Ridley Scott, is "strikingly similar" to his own 2001 book about the Crusades. James Reston Jr claims that Scott was approached about making a film based on Warriors of God: Richard the Lionheart and Saladin in the Third Crusade, and that whilst Scott said he wasn't interested, he then made a film with the same main character (who goes by the name of Bailin of Ibelin, in case you were wondering). Fox, whilst not out-and-out denying the similarities, insists that Reston's claims are ridiculous. According to studio attorney Bonnie Bogin, Reston cannot "claim a monopoly on history." "The elements in Warriors of God are no more than historical facts which have been in the public domain for more than nine centuries," Bogin said. The film, which stars Orlando Bloom and Liam Neeson, is completed and is slated for release later this year.
