Showtime has rounded up a crew of master horror filmmakers to write and/or direct a total of 13 one-hour films, to be titled, collectively, Masters of Horror. Included in that roster are Italian auteur Dario Argento, Halloween-mastermind John Carpenter, and schlockster priest Roger Corman. The idea is to give the directors freedom to explore stories and ideas that they've long wanted to try, as well as the budget (each film will be allocated $1-2 million) to do it right. Says Showtime entertainment chief Robert Greenblatt, "It's gonna be classy, if that's not an oxymoron." The films will be released on video and DVD via Anchor Bay.
