Lauren Bacall first released her autobiography, By Myself, almost thirty years ago; now it's being rereleased as By Myself And Then Some, with 100 additional pages. There's a superb interview with the 80-year-old star in the Guardian UK to mark the occasion. Writer Susie Mackenzie not only gets Bacall to open up on everything from the drawbacks of her marriage to Bogie to how Frank Sinatra got her to leave L.A, she also provides enough historical context for it all to make sense. Among other revelations, Bacall explains her Venice press conference comments about Nicole Kidman being not "a legend", but "a beginner": "Legends are all to do with the past and nothing to do with the present." If anyone knows, it's her.
