Alex Karpovsky’s The Hole Story uses the same gimmick used in The Blair Witch Project, but for humor instead of horror. How much of the movie was scripted? It doesn’t really matter. What does matter is we are willing to jump on the train for the ride.

The plot involves Alex, an aspiring director from Boston, personally funding his pet project "Provincial Puzzlers." His plan is to film a spec pilot episode to send around to the networks. The idea of the show is that each week they will fly to another city or town and investigate a new unsolved mystery.

The first episode is to solve the mystery of a half-mile-sized hole that has unexplainably appeared in the center of a frozen Minnesota lake. The problem is that when they arrive in Branyard, Minnisota in January of 2004, the hole has closed up and there is now 3 to 4 inches of ice in the center of north long lake.
