Buffy fans better watch out, because a new (er, old?) vampire slayer is coming next year to a television near you.

At Viacom cable division's third annual "upfront" presentation at the Madison Square Garden Theatre, Spike TV president Doug Herzog announced the network will adapt the theatrical franchise Blade as a series for early next year.

"New Line Television and Marvel Studios will produce the project, with David Goyer, writer-director of Blade: Trinity, executive producing," reported Reuters.

Goyer is not expected to write the pilot - Thank god. True, he did write the first movie which was a great adaptation of the comic book. But the sequels that followed lacked the same spark, in my opinion. Not that you need a great story for vampire slayer television series, look at Buffy. (I can't wait to see my e-mail box after that comment)
