Though by no means a blockbuster opening, Ridley Scott's Kingdom of Heaven exceeded expectations this weekend, racking up $20 million for an easy debut at number one. Audiences were somewhat less enthusiastic about the week's remaining new releases; House of Wax came in at number 2 with $12.2 million, and Crash earned $9.1, enought to tie for third place with last week's number one, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. The Interpreter just barely held on to the top five by earning $7.5 million this week. All in all its a sluggish start to the summer movie season, which analysts seem to agree won't really kick into gear until the May 19 opening of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.
