crossing_the_bridge.jpgBack to the New York Times Cannes blog, which we told you about yesterday, Manohla  - who was shut out of one screening (our sympathies) after "missing" (read: slept through) an early screening of Match Point  - has just tuned in to the "distinct punk vibe" of Fatih Akin's Crossing the Bridge: The Sound of Istanbul. The director of Head-On,  Akin has made a documentary about Turkish music starring - rivetheads, take note - Einstürzende Neubauten's Alexander Hacke.

Meanwhile, A.O. Scott was relatively blown away by that Woody Allen film that Manohla missed. It's a "serious" picture, and "one of the most crisply and ingeniously plotted American movies I've seen in some time," Scott writes. "Some [critics] will find things to complain about later on (and may be trashing it in the cafes as I write this), but I was happy." Fair enough.
