The Peacemaker, Solaris, One Fine Day. With spirit like that, George Clooney should get an award. Oh wait! He is: the 2005 Los Angeles Film Festival is tossing the inaugural "Spirit of Independence Award" at the former Batman. The 2005 festival will also feature the biggest cash award for a documentary ever, an "unrestricted grant of $50,000." Hear that? The money tree is shakin'. Another fifty grand will be awarded as the "Target Filmmaker Award," making LAFF the highest paying film festival in North America. Last year, Tarnation director Jonathan Caouette won the award, but he only got a paltry $25,000.
