For better or for worse, the experience of being at a film festival is about so much more than just the films you see or the films you miss, or the communal buzz surounding residents of either column. Every film festival I've ever been to has been simultaneously a great adventure and some kind of nightmare; it's always a heady environment in which small logistic details can magnify themselves into life-or-death matters, and the possibilities for actual film appreciation are always at the mercy of all manner of other elements.
