DreamWorks and Universal have announced Gladiator: Extended Edition for DVD release on August 26, 2005. The 3-disc set will include both the regular 155-minute theatrical cut and a newly assembled 171-minute extended edition. English and French Dolby Digital 5.1 and 2.0 will be available. According to an early spec list for the project that has leaked from European sources, Disc Two will feature an in-depth 200 minute documentary entitled "Strength and Honor: Creating the World of Gladiator" on the making of the film. Yes, that's a three hour and twenty minute documentary. Disc Three should feature a Production Design Primer and Gallery, Storyboard Demonstrations and Comparisons, Abandoned Sequences, Ridleygrams: Ridley Scott's own sketches, Costume Design Gallery, Photo Galleries, Deleted Scenes, Letters From the Front: Authentic memos on the challenges of production, Commodus Screen Test (Joaquin Phoenix), Visual Effects Explorations, An Evening with Russell Crowe and much more. DigitalBits reports that "All of this will be included in Digipak packaging with an outer slipcase, plus a 12-page booklet." No price has been set yet.
