Our big brothers over at engadget report that TDK has officially announced 100GB Blu-ray discs. What's more is they are able to record the discs at speeds more than twice as fast, 72 megabits per second, double the 36 mbps rate of current Blu-ray discs. What this means to you and me, the consumers, is that IF Blu-ray wins the next generation format war, DVDs will have almost 11 times the capacity of the ones on the shelves now. What this means to us is more extra features, and hugely better video and sound quality. I'm also betting that most box sets will be released on single discs. I mean why split a seaon box set of say... the television show 24, on six or seven discs when they could fit on one or two? The future is looking bright with blue-ray.
