Despite rumors that they'd been "burned" too many times by the filmmaker's dismal box office record, Dreamworks has paid $4 million for North American rights to Woody Allen's latest, Match Point. The film, a darkish drama set in London and starring Scarlett Johansson, premiered last month at the Cannes Film Festival to mostly rapturous reviews. Dreamworks marketing chief Terry Press, who plans to push Match Point (and, specifically, Johansson) at Oscar time, is confident that Dreamworks will have better luck with this film than they had distributing severl of Allen's other recent titles, such as 2002's Hollywood Ending. Match Point, Press says, "sells itself."
