IFC Films has picked up North American rights to Lars von Trier's Manderlay. The second film in a proposed trilogy targeting the American experience, Manderlay debuted at Cannes last month, to a decidedly mixed response. Still, IFC's Jonathan Sehring is smart enough to know that von Trier is one of just a handful of international art house directors whose every new film seems like an event in and of itself: "Love him or hate him, Lars von Trier is unarguably one of the world's great auteurs and Manderlay is one of his best films to date," read a statement he issued yesterday. "All of the performances are remarkable, and Bryce Dallas Howard is nothing short of a revelation - in a short period of time she has established herself as one of America's finest young actresses."
