• More on the new MI:3 deal: The Brad Grey Administration cut the budget by at least 10 percent, dropped several "exotic" shooting locations (including Shanghai), and Cruise took a hit on his backend (totally unnecessary pun intended).
  • Spike Lee, taking advantage of a new package of city and state tax incentives, will shoot The Inside Man at Steiner Studios in Brooklyn. Universal's James Brubaker applauded New York's new incentive program as a partial solution to runaway production: "It has probably taken a lot of films from Canada in many ways. Getting 10% from the state and 5% from the city on a big movie is a lot."
  • Fast and the Furious 3 won't have Vin Diesel or Paul Walker, but it will have Tokyo, plus director Justin Lin, of Better Luck Tomorrow-fame.
  • British company IDT is partenering with Fox to produce and distribute CGI features, in a deal akin to the one Pixar has had with Disney. What's going on with those two, you ask? I don't know, but I should probably, like, do my job and try to find out.
  • The Taormina Film Festival opens on Saturday; the program includes Batman Begins, Caveh Zahedi's I Am A Sex Addict, and presumably quite a few shades of grey in between.
  • Tom Hanks will not star in ITV's latest Miss Marple TV movie, but other as-yet-unnamed superstars probably will.
