A guy named Dean Roll, who wrestles for the WWE under the name Shark Boy, filed a suit against Robert Rodriguez, Miramax and other defendants on Tuesday, alleging "trademark infringement and unfair competition" in association with the new film, The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl. Roll (that's him at right) claims that he "has been and is now extensively engaged in the sport of professional wrestling under the service mark Shark Boy ... and has been using it continuously in interstate commerce since 1997." There hasn't been an official comment yet from Rodriguez or any of the associated defendants, but the director has gone on record with several sources crediting the initial concept for the film to his seven-year-old son, Racer. Still, it doesn't seem like a suit devoid of merit - I know little about wrestling, but it seems like within whatever crossover audience there is between Rodriguez' film and Roll's sport, there is ample room to get confused.
