In an effort to foil China's video pirates, Warner Bros released The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants on DVD in China on the same day that it debuted theatrically in the United States. But won’t this ruin their take at the Chinese box office? Well, yes and no. The studio had no plans to release the movie theatrically in China, so to them it’s a win-win situation.  But Warner's move could backfire, because bootleggers now have a high-quality studio DVD to make duplicates of. I’m sure the copies will turn up on Bit Torrent and in the streets of New York City any day now. Warner is not looking to apply the same strategy to any future releases in the United States or other countries.
