Blockbuster is apparently trying to hitch a wagon to the UMD horse. A user of Blockbuster Online reported finding UMD movies popping up in his search results. If rentals of the PSP-playable video disc prove as popular as sales have then this could really be the next battleground in the war between Blockbuster, as it continues to maintain physical dominance and build an online following, and fan-favorite Netflix. The one problem I can think of as these and other services branch out into other formats is distribution. Right now their infrastructure is designed for DVDs. Branching out from that could prove costly for businesses whose longterm fiscal viability has yet to be proven.
