Why is Reuters "surprised" that Tyler Perry's Diary of a Mad Black Woman had a strong showing its first week in release on DVD? A) It was a huge theatrical hit, coming out of nowhere to gross $50 million; and B), as an indie-niche-genre film, it only makes sense that it would do even better on home video. It's not a surprise that it did well - if anything, it's a surprise that it ceeded the number one slot on the sales charts to The Pacifier. The Vin Diesel comedy was number one on the rental charts as well, knocking the Will Smith vehicle Hitch to number two.
