Peter Ostrum, who played Charlie in the 1971 film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, never made another film. In fact, he's a veterinarian living in upstate New York with his family. His wife didn't even know he was Charlie until she was about to be introduced to his mom. I don't know why he chose not to appear in another movie, but I'm guessing it was due to that freakish psychedelic boatride which may have caused irreversible psychological damage. NPR has a story on Ostrum and his opinions on Tim Burton's update of the 1971 hit.
