Being a fan of Tim Burton and Danny Elfman seems to go hand in hand. Elfman has provided musical scores for a vast majority of Burton's films, and Burton's latest feature Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is their latest collaboration (well, and there's Corpse Bride, too, but that's not out just yet). In an interview, Elfman discusses his and Burton's decision to go with a "Bollywood" style musical score, jumping from one style to the next with seemingly no rhyme or reason (or some rhyme and little reason). Whether this approach works or not is up for movie audiences to decide, but I'd rather see more composers taking risk than listen to another blandly perfect orchestral swell from John Williams.
