I am closely related to Neil Gaiman, and by that I mean one of my roommates has a friend, who has a friend, whose father is Neil Gaiman. I mean, that practically makes us related, right? Anyway, cousin Neil's dark children's tale Coraline will be the first animated feature from Phil Knight's (Nike) new animation studio, Laika Entertainment. Laika was formerly Vinton Studios, a Seattle company which Knight purchased in 2003. There is no word yet on whether Knight will use American animators or ship the work to overseas sweatshops. If so, it could mean the first animated feature film released by a major studio made for under $150.
