A while ago I posted a story about how Illinois was dangling tax breaks and other incentives to the film industry in an attempt to get some filmmaking dollars. Well, the AP now has a list of the ideas some other states have floated in order to attract productions to their neck of the woods. Some have already passed, some have failed and some are still pending. Here are some of my favorites:
- Indiana would allow free use of state and university properties as locations for all but porn films.
- Texas passed a resolution providing tax exemptions for various expenses. They also voted to provide grants to aspiring local filmmakers. Both of these went forward without the money to make them work.
- Colorado has greenlit allowing producers to use the state patrol to help maneuver through permits and other red tape.
