With yesterday's announcement of this year's Oscar schedule (countdown: 31 weeks until the awards) David Poland has decided it's never too soon to start speculating on nominations. The interesting - although not entirely surprising - aspect to his Top 16 Best Picture contenders? Only one of them - Crash - has already been released. Poland's holding out the brunt of his hope for Munich; The Producers and Memoirs of a Geisha may also have a chance. On the long shot list, several have come (Hustle and Flow) and gone (The Upside of Anger, Cinderella Man), but it's not hard to see why Poland has pegged them as longshots. This is the point where I start to get depressed, because all of the films I've really loved this year are completely missing from the dialogue. Take a look at the list and let us know what you think. Anything eggregiously ommitted?
