Following Sony Pictures, Twentieth Century Fox, and the Walt Disney Company, Lions Gate Entertainment Corporation has also announced they'll be releasing DVDs using the Blu-Ray format starting next year. The discs would have higher storage capacity than normal DVDs, and would be optimized to work with high-definition television. Also, they would include a higher level of piracy protection, which has many studios sold on the idea. The new format will be competing against HD-DVD, which is set to launch before Blu-Ray and has some worried about a repeat of the VHS vs. Beta fiasco.
