Cruise ArrowsContinuing to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous behavior is Scientology's wacky-ass poster boy, Tom Cruise. In an article in the current issue of the magazine Radar, contributing writer Kim Masters tells of the actor's speedy rise through the ranks of the controversial church (the secret gospel of which involves extraterrestrials), its lavish and expansive Neverland-style spread outside L.A. and the church's brainwashing techiques, which a former employee and Vietnam veteran "likened to techniques he’d been trained to expect from the Vietcong." The Church of Scientology was founded in Washington D.C. in 1955 by L. Ron Hubbard, who is best known to moviegoers as the author of the book which became 2000's Battlefield Earth, widely regarded (in Bizarro World) as one of the best science fiction movies ever made.
