Either he's trying to justify himself to the indie crowd or he just knows how to manage his money, but Matt Damon claims one of the benefits of appearing as Jason Bourne in both The Bourne Identity and The Bourne Supremacy is that the films provided him with the extra scratch he needed to do smaller (and I would add "better") projects like Gerry or The Brothers Grimm.

It's like the old saying goes, if you want to appear in a low budget movie, you have to do a few blockbusters where guys punch each other a lot. I assume this means we can expect Matt to appear in more independent films after the release of The Bourne Ultimatum in 2007.
