The Friday estimates are out, and this week they're a bit curious. Perhaps buoyed by new TV ads that raise the art of the creative pullquote to shocking new heights, The Brothers Grimm is currently in the lead. Terry Gilliam's film made $5.8 million yesterday, to The 40 Year-Old Virgin's $4.7. With a spread of over $1 million, it's unlikely that the two pictures will swap places in the rankins between now and Monday morning – unless, of course, the word of mouth on Grimm runs as bad as I imagine it will, and/or all viewers motivated by curiosity showed up last night. Elsewhere, the weekend's only other wide release looks like a bomb: The Cave scraped up only $2 million yesterday, and is currently sitting in sixth place.
