Bata shoesA movie about a busload of unemployed British shoemakers traveling across Europe had its world premiere at the Edinburgh Film Festival. Bata-ville: We Are Not Afraid of the Future, was shot by two directors who traveled with the former shoemakers to Zlin, in the Czech Republic, where the Bata shoe empire began.

Company founder Tomas Bata was renowned for the social programs he established for his employees, and in the British town of East Tilsbury, which was founded in the 1930s as a copy of Bata's community in Zlin, residents still speak fondly of the "Bata way of life".
