If you're looking for any sort of a sign proving this fall will bring us a crop of quality films, then search no further. Ain't It Cool News has posted a link to the Japanese trailer for Memoirs of a Geisha and it looks gorgeous. Directed by Rob Marshall, based on the book by Arthur Golden, and with a script by Akiva Goldsman, Geisha tells the story of an impoverished girl who undergoes severe physical and mental abuse when she's sold into prostitution at a young age. Over time she hones her beauty and is ultimately trained to become one of Japan's most celebrated Geishas.
What amazes me most about this trailer is how brilliantly the filmmakers managed to capture 1920's and 30's Japan while shooting on a set located in California. The look and feel of this film has Oscar written all over it and the American dialogue is sure to give it that extra push at the box office.
