I mentioned in a recent post that George Clooney is placing a hefty sum of money into the development of a resort in Las Vegas. Clooney hopes the resort will bring back the days of Sinatra and old-style Vegas and Hollywood, but some are asking, um, why? One of the plans for the new resort, named Las Ramblas, is a dress code similar to the old days when men would don suits and women would wrap themselves in furs before heading out for gambling and libations. Many are arguing that a return to the past makes little sense, when Vegas' income is fueled by a steady influx of tourists, not many of them exactly clad in dapper clothing. They may be right, but then again, perhaps people would be willing to spend extra cash to put themselves back in the good old days, you know, when the mafia ran everything.
