It's the most successful independent film of all time (and, undoubtedly, one of the most controversial), and its original negatives have been thought missing for over 30 years. But last week, Paul Interlandi opened a film canister marked "Lost Treasure", and found exactly that – the original negatives of Deep Throat. Interlandi and Arrow Productions had spent $30,000 earlier this year restoring prints of the porno for its theatrical rerelease (designed to coincide with the opening of World of Wonder's Inside Deep Throat), but despite that coincidence, he insists this discovery was a total fluke. "It’s pretty valuable stuff, being that it’s the most successful independent film ever made," Interlandi told Xbiz (yes, that's an adult entertainment industry trade). "And all this time I thought it was completely gone." Perceived wisdom had held that the negatives were seized by the federal government during a raid on Arrow and anyone else associated with the film. It's sort of sad, really – first Mark Felt, now this? There's something depressing about a world in which there's not a single Deep Throat mystery left to solve.
