russellIn a moment that makes the 80s era sixth grader in me go "Ooooh burn!", Russell Crowe has ripped into Bono and Bob Geldof for their Hey everybody, look at me! style of charity work. I don't know where he gets off being all mature all of a sudden, but Crowe apparently regularly supports causes that matter to him, but does so quietly and privately. After all, the point (at least theoretically) is to help other people, not get attention for yourself. Right, Bono? Right, Sir Bob? Hello?

Hey, I hate on Russell as much as the next girl, but when the man is right, he's right. I mean, it's not as if Bono or Geldof (who I have to admit, has always gotten a pass from me because he's the reason the glorious Band Aid video exists) will be able to hear him over the din of their own raging egos, but still. It's nice someone has the balls to point out the hypocrisy of the Me-Me-Me! charity trend - now we just need to hear it from some perfect little flower, like Elijah Wood or something. Then the whole "Well, he's a loose cannon! What do you expect?" misdirection ploy won't work.
