bollywoodIn a clear sign that the western world is finally recognizing the financial power of the biggest film industry in the world, British Prime Minister Tony Blair this week will be sign a deal to ease cooperation between UK and Indian productions. Any Indian films shot in the UK will be eligible for huge tax breaks, and the productions will have the opportunity to avail themselves of British technology and facilities. Interest in Bollywood has skyrocketed recently in the UK, which has a large Indian population of its own. Not only have films from India been successful, but British-born directors of Indian heritage have also come to the fore with international hits such as Bend it Like Beckham.

Interestingly, this is just the latest in a long list of co-production contracts for Britain. The list, which already includes countries like Italy, Norway, and Australia is in short order expected to expand further with the addition of China, South Africa and, oddly, Morocco.
