It may not be a scoop akin to the Watergate scandal, but over at Jim Hill Media, a former studio insider known right now as simply "The Aspiring Aspirer" gives credence to some of the long-standing rumors. He explains how some bungling Muggle in the Mouse's publishing department missed out on securing the rights to publish and adapt for the screen J.K. Rowling's first Harry Potter book (and subsequent installments). With characteristic passion and detail, JHM leaves no philosopher's stone unturned as TAA names names and lays blame, also mentioning how Disney missed out on another mega-franchise: Peter Jackson's Lord Of The Rings trilogy (which the Weinsteins at Miramax wanted to pack into two movies). Time will tell if the franchise that Disney did land – C.S. Lewis' Chronicles Of Narnia – will pay off after The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe is released on December 9th.
