Fresh Air host Terry Gross recently interviewed author Mark Cotta Vaz about his newest book, a biography of original King Kong creator Merian C. Cooper titled Living Dangerously: The Adventures of Merian C. Cooper. Cooper, besides being the man behind the film and monster, was also a seasoned world traveler, production head of RKO Pictures, and a producer on iconic westerns like The Searchers and She Wore A Yellow Ribbon. Also notable is that Cooper brought Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers together, but oddly enough never had either one of them scale the Empire State Building or wrestle with a dinosaur. Anyway, the interview is quite informative, as all of Gross' interviews tend to be, and it's a nice little history lesson while we wait to be disappointed by Peter Jackson's upcoming remake.
