Can we put the slump dialectics to bed now? With two $20 million+ earners, this early-fall weekend would seem to go a long way towards erasing the darkest memories of the summer past. Check it out: Flightplan, a generic thriller starring Jodie Foster, opened to a super-strong $24.6 million this weekend, whilst Tim Burton's The Corpse Bride expanded to a very healthy $20.1 million. Last week's number one, Just Like Heaven, made $9.1 million - just enough to beat out the week's other big new release, Roll Bounce, out of the number 3 slot. Two smaller releases, A History of Violence and Oliver Twist, also did super well; they'll both expand next week. Altogether, this weekend's take is up a whopping 51% over last year.
